Dark Cherry Red Hair: The Rich Red We’re Wearing Into Fall 🍒 - Evilhair

BLOG

"Somewhere between deep crimson, ruby moon red and burgundy lives the perfect Dark Cherry Red."

It’s darker and moodier than classic vivid red, but still catches the light with flashes of rich ruby and crimson. The result is a multidimensional red that can look almost wine-dark in the shadows and intensely cherry red in brighter light.

And you can create it at home with just two Evilhair shades.

The Dark Cherry Red Formula

Mix:

2 parts Crimson Red + 1 part Ruby Moon

Our ColorConditioner™ colors can be mixed together, so you can customize the exact depth of your Dark Cherry Red. The conditioning formula deposits vibrant pigment while nourishing and hydrating the hair, and it is vegan and cruelty-free.

For an even darker cherry, increase the amount of Crimson.
For a brighter, jewel-like cherry red, add a little more Ruby.

How to Apply

Wash your hair first without applying conditioner or treatment afterward.

Mix 2 parts Crimson Red ColorConditioner™ with 1 part Ruby Moon, then apply generously to damp or dry hair. Leave the color to process for 15–90 minutes, depending on the intensity you want, and rinse thoroughly without shampooing. We reccoment a second application after your next wash if you want to build even more pigment and longevity.

As with most vivid colors, your starting base matters: lighter/pre-lightened hair will generally produce a brighter and more vivid result.

Keep Your Cherry Red Fresh 🍒

Red pigments inevitably fade between coloring sessions, so maintenance makes a major difference.

Use GO Red ColorShampoo™ between ColorConditioner applications to refresh the red pigments while you wash.

"And once you've created it, the next challenge is keeping that gorgeous red where it belongs: in your hair, not disappearing down the drain."

4 PRO TIPS: How to Keep Red Hair Vibrant ❤️🔥

Red is one of the most striking hair colors — but red pigments are also notorious for visibly fading. A few changes to your routine can make a surprisingly big difference.

1. Turn Down the Water Temperature 🚿

That steaming-hot shower might feel amazing, but it's not your red hair's best friend.

Wash colored hair with lukewarm water rather than very hot water. Hot water can increase swelling of the hair fiber and encourage color loss during washing.

You don't need an ice-cold shower. Simply turning the temperature down when you're washing and rinsing your hair can help preserve your color.

PRO TIP: If you love hot showers, keep your hair out of the water until you're ready to wash it.

2. Wash Less — Refresh the Pigment Instead 🍒

Every shampoo removes some deposited color, so one of the easiest ways to prolong vivid red is simply not washing it unnecessarily.

When you do wash, use products designed with colored hair in mind.

For Dark Cherry, we recommend GO Red ColorShampoo™ to introduce red pigment back into your routine and help refresh the color between full ColorConditioner™ applications.

Think:

Color → Protect → Refresh → Repeat.

3. Heat Style Smarter 🔥

Your straightener doesn't need to be at maximum temperature to do its job.

Repeated high-temperature styling can damage the hair fiber and make maintaining glossy, saturated color more difficult.

Use a heat protectant whenever you're blow-drying, curling or straightening, and use the lowest temperature that effectively styles your particular hair.

Bonus: healthier-looking hair reflects light better — and Dark Cherry looks incredible when it shines.

4. Water Matters More Than You Think 💧

If your vivid colors seem to behave differently after moving or travelling, your water may be part of the equation.

Hard water contains dissolved minerals that can accumulate on the hair over time, affecting how the hair feels and potentially interfering with the appearance and performance of your color.

If you live somewhere with particularly hard water, consider a suitable shower filtration or hard-water hair routine and avoid unnecessarily long rinsing.

And whether your water is hard or soft, the golden rule for vivid reds remains:

less unnecessary washing + cooler water = happier color.

Keep Your Dark Cherry Juicy 🍒

The Dark Cherry routine is simple:

CREATE:
2 parts Crimson + 1 part Ruby

CUSTOMIZE:
More Crimson → darker
More Ruby → brighter

Have fun creating your new hair color! <3
